After years of waiting, Rocksteady finally broke its silence by confirming it'll be working on Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, which is certainly unconventional given everyone was absolutely convinced they were helming a Superman game.

But then again, Superman doesn't feature, sort of. Following two movies about the titular antiheroes - most recently with the more successful 2021 James Gunn (reboot?) - the special group of DC supervillains are finally getting their own video game.

It's been a busy week for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League news. A supposed screenshot of the game's menu, leaked on 4chan and picked up by VGC, seemed to show a battle pass mechanic in the game.

This was met with widespread criticism, and the image was later taken down via copyright strike, potentially confirming its legitimacy. Rocksteady has yet to comment, so we'll have to wait and see whether the game has a live service mechanic.

As reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League might have been delayed until 2023.

Apparently, this was confirmed by "people familiar with development", but at the time of writing Warner Bros. hasn't officially confirmed the news. That being said, it's notable that when WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar outlined their 2022 plans, including “a full slate of highly anticipated games,” only Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights were named, and not Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Make of that what you will.

Release date

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League was initially planned to launch in 2022 year but following a recent delay, that's now been pushed back to February 2, 2024.

Platforms

The game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC. We may hear more news about more platforms such as Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia, closer to its release.

What is the Suicide Squad game?

Rocksteady's Batman Arkham trilogy are rightfully regarded as some of the finest superhero adventures in gaming, so seeing them shift gears and let us take control of the Suicide Squad is exciting.

Very similar to the comic books, the Suicide Squad is contracted by the government to form Task Force X. Under the watchful eye of Amanda Waller, the black-ops unit is expected to carry out secret missions in exchange for a full pardon.

The villains get the added benefit of killing the Justice League, who probably is the reason they're being contracted. It's suggested that Brainiac is behind why the Justice League are suddenly baddies.

This game will be a continuation of the Arkhamverse, so a lot of the threads and storylines you're going to see come to fruition in this game. It will include an open-world metropolis.

Rocksteady also confirmed the game will support 1-4 player co-op, allowing players to swap to any character at any moment. This will likely be similar to how Square-Enix recently implemented the gameplay of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game.

Characters

In the game you can play as:

  • Harley Quinn a.k.a. Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the "mistress of mayhem"
  • King Shark a.k.a. Nanaue, the "demigod humanoid shark"
  • Deadshot a.k.a. Floyd Lawton, the "most dangerous marksman alive"
  • Captain Boomerang a.k.a. Digger Harkness, the "Aussie assassin extraordinaire"

Each character will have moves and abilities unique and specific to themselves.

They will also have a wide range of customizable weapons to help them take down the Justice League.
