Sony announced the long-awaited PS5 Pro during its technical presentation yesterday, September 10. While it features impressive tech compared to the base model, the PS5 Pro’s massive price point isn’t getting fans excited for its November release.
A base price of $699.99 without vertical stands and disc drive has gaming fans in a frenzy, with many airing their frustrations over the Internet.
Now that Sony thinks the stand-less PS5 Pro is worth $700, many believe that the console wars ended with Nintendo becoming the victor.
Originally posted on Reddit by user u/GlorifiedHobo, they shared that the PS5 Pro’s main problem is not the price itself but Sony removing important features such as the vertical stand and disc drive and pricing it for $700. They stated that if Sony thinks the PS5 Pro is worth it without the said features, the company must reflect it on its price. Considering that $700 is almost the same price as a Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU, the premium price points should have the necessary features.

Several players started comparing the Nintendo Switch against Sony’s PS5 and PS5 Pro. A fan stated that while Sony is releasing the expensive PS5 Pro without the bare minimum features, Nintendo has kept the Switch interesting by continuously releasing game titles on the handheld console, such as the anticipated The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom.
The Switch has been out for far longer than the PS5, yet many players feel that Nintendo’s console is holding out amidst the console wars. Plenty of players say that Sony is losing because of the lack of games designed for the PS5 and the expensive price tag.
Some gamers added that for less than $700, they could purchase a decent GPU that outperforms the PS5 Pro. The Nvidia 4070 Super GPU can run 4K with 240fps or 8K with 60fps, numbers that the PS5 Pro has yet to prove in actual games. Amazon, Newegg, and Best Buy currently have pricing options for graphics cards that cost less than $700.
Nintendo has yet to announce details about the rumored Switch 2, but with the current state of the PS5 Pro, gamers may still have to pass on this console and wait for the upcoming PlayStation 6 instead.
