Almost 35 years after his debut, many fans have started questioning Yoshi’s canon in many Super Mario games.
Is he the same Yoshi since the beginning, or is the Yoshi in each Super Mario title different every time?
Asked initially on Reddit by user u/lilb1190, they wanted to know whether the Yoshi everyone sees and plays across multiple games is the same Yoshi from his debut or since Yoshi is also a Yoshi - the species of the dinosaur-like characters in Mario games - do they change for each iteration of the character.

Many fellow Super Mario fans were quick to provide some answers to the question. Some fans believe that while Yoshi is both the character's name and the species, this particular Yoshi is uniquely named "Yoshi," much like how Ash's Pikachu in the Pokémon anime is simply known as "Pikachu."
Others pointed out that if players consider each Mario game canon, the Yoshi in Yoshi Island games differs from the original Yoshi who had been with Mario in Super Mario World. This is mainly due to how other games portray Yoshi’s origins.
Nintendo released a character guide in 1993, naming the Yoshi everyone knows as “T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas.”
Many fans responded to it in the most hilarious ways possible. Some answered the question with just a plain “Yes,” causing more confusion while confirming both theories. Others jokingly stated that Piccolo, the iconic green character in the Dragon Ball series, is also a Yoshi, referencing the internet meme.
