During a Bank Of America conference yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Weidenfels confirmed that the sequel to the widely popular Hogwarts Legacy is one of its gaming division’s biggest priorities.

With the recent failure of Warner Bros. Games’ Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, the sequel for the Harry Potter game might just be the thing they need.

Hogwarts Legacy received a positive reception from both critics and gamers. The game won several gaming awards, including the “Best Game on Steam Deck” Award from The Steam Awards and the “Award for Excellence” from Japan Game Awards.

The game was also nominated for the “Most Anticipated Game” during the Game Awards 2022 and the "Most Wanted Game" during the Golden Joystick Awards 2022. Hogwarts Legacy introduced various game mechanics, such as a personalized Room Of Requirement and a wide range of school-related activities.

While some may consider Hogwarts Legacy a success despite initial technical issues, Warner Bros. Discovery thinks that the best move for its gaming division is to release the sequel after a few years.

Another Harry Potter game that may boost Warner Bros. Games' revenue is the newly released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which is now available on most current-gen platforms.

Aside from Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. Discovery considers DC Studios a key factor in the company’s growth. Weidenfels mentioned that James Gunn and Peter Safran are both bolstering the brand.

In other Harry Potter news, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is available at no additional cost for PS Plus subscribers. Players who have subscribed to at least a PS Plus Essential subscription can play the game as September’s monthly offering. Players can customize their characters and play online, making a PS Plus subscription handy for trying the game. The game will then have to be purchased by PS Plus subscribers on October 1, 2024.
