Guangzi carries a spear that deals close-range and long-range fire damage.

At this stage, we recommend investing in the following resources:

  • Body-Cooling Powder: You can equip this from a nearby shrine. As the name suggests, the powder enhances fire resistance against Guangzhi’s fire-based attacks.
  • Rampant Vigor: This is a skill, and you’ll have to utilize your Sparks to purchase it. The Rampont Vigor excels in granting you HP, Mana, Stamina, and Damage.
  • Simian Agility: You can treat this as an alternative or a backup after Rampant Vigor. Simian Agility decreases your stamina cost, so you can use more dodges against Guangzhi without depleting tons of stamina.

Beating Guangzhi

Guangzhi is not about you going on the offensive—you need to predict his moves and attack accordingly. Initially, he will charge at you with his close-range attacks. This is due to his maxed-out health bar, and we recommend keeping your distance from him. Use your dodges to counter these close-range attacks.

Do not attack Guangzhi while he’s attempting his combos. This will do more damage than good.

Once he completes his combo, there’s a tiny window where he catches his breath for the next offense—this is your opening to deal damage. Don’t use heavy attacks, as they take longer to perform, allowing the boss to return to his original state.

At the opening of his attacks, Guangzhi kneels for a split second. Using the Immobilize spell here will freeze him, allowing you to deal damage on sensitive areas, such as the upper-neck region.

Once the Immobilize spell depletes, move away from the boss. At a far-off distance, he will not attack you. This will allow you to recharge your free spell without confronting Guangzhi.

Once his health starts to deplete, he’ll begin to use more complex, long-range combos. Nonetheless, the strategy remains the same. Dodge, wait, and attack.

Rewards For Defeating Guangzhi

Once you’ve defeated this optional boss, you’ll get his flame spear and a transformation spell called Red Tide.

You already know what the spear does. The Red Tide, on the other hand, allows you to turn into Guangzhi. This is beneficial for two reasons:

  • You get an additional health bar. Once that depletes, you return to your original state.
  • You can use Guangzhi to progress further into the game with comparatively more ease.
