Is The Finals a battle royale?

We would say no, even though there are elements of a battle royale. The Finals could be best described as a classic arena shooter, with a heavy emphasis on its game show parts. This is a free-to-play FPS where teams of three people are going out to see if they are better than the other teams.

There is a lot of crashing through buildings and weird elements like UFOs. But despite all this, it definitely doesn't play like a classic battle royale game. For example, in The Finals you don't get eliminated from the game when you die, but instead you respawn after a few seconds.

Making things even worse, there are no safe zones and matches will last, at the most, about fifteen minutes. While it does have some elements of the crazy gameplay of Fortnite, The Finals feels more like a throwback to the classic arena shooters of the early 00s.

Still, don't let that discourage you from trying it out, as The Finals is definitely quite a lot of fun. But if you're heading in, do check out some of our other guides such as all about the best performance settings and its crossplay capabilities.
