The latest trailer for the ninth generation of mainline Pokémon games is here. Elsewhere, feel free to read up on some other massive games. We've got a list of the rarest Fortnite skins if Epic Games' battle royale sensation is your thing. Elsewhere, we've also got an Apex Legends tier list and best guns list, for some help in that futuristic FPS.
What are the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet towns and areas?
Based on the new trailer showing off a proper look at gameplay from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we can already speculate about some of the new areas to explore in the Paldea region.
The main one shown in the footage is a sprawling city with a festival atmosphere. It's likely where your player character starts their adventure, with bunting adorning the streets and confetti pouring down. That's alongside some pretty old-fashioned architecture, leading many to believe this new region is based on Spain, Portugal, or some mix of the Iberian peninsula.
It also seems that outside the main city area are sprawling open-world sections, akin to the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
While that city is what the trailer focuses on, we do see glimpses of other areas. The next is a muddy, earthy biome likely home to Grass- and Dark-type Pokémon - as well as the instant fan-favourite Lechonk.
That's fitting, because The Pokémon Company has also confirmed that you can use Let's Go! mode to allow your partner Pokémon to walk around with you, as well as to roam around your surroundings in search of items, auto-battling critters they come across while you get on with other things.
The last two areas we see are snowy tundras and underground caves. They look extensive, with location-specific Pokémon that likely won't appear anywhere else on the map.
Crucially, you can also imagine that each of the different areas in Scarlet and Violet will be home to a different gym. That's been par for the course in Pokémon for a while, with a Snow-type gym in frosty areas, and so on. Of course, once we learn more about the setting in Scarlet and Violet, we'll be able to update this guide with even more info.
What is the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet region?
The new region in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is called the Paldea region. Most mainline Pokémon games tend to take place in fresh pastures, aside from the Hisui region in Legends: Arceus.
However, the new region in Scarlet and Violet does seem to be based on Spain. It's not uncommon for each new region to take visual cues from a different part of the world.
Most recent was the Galar region in Sword and Shield, which was based on the UK. This time around, we've got sunny vistas, dense fields, and plenty of nice areas to look at.
That's it for our early look at the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet towns and areas! As new information comes out we'll be sure to update this guide with the latest details, so you're totally ready for your new adventure when November rolls around. Until then, why not check out whether Scarlet and Violet herald the arrival of Pokémon generation nine? The timeline confused people.
