How To Solve the Hospital Combination Lock and X-Ray Puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake
To solve the Hospital Combination Lock and the associated X-Ray Puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake, you’ll need to carefully explore Brookhaven Hospital to collect key items and piece together clues.
The puzzle starts on the 3rd floor (3F) of Brookhaven Hospital in the X-ray room. Inside, you’ll find an X-ray viewer and a Radiograph of a Pelvis on a table nearby. This is one of the essential pieces of the puzzle, so make sure to pick it up.
There’s also a memo next to it that hints at the need for additional radiographs, which means you’ll need to search for more. Head to the 2nd floor (2F), where the Nurse's Station is located. To unlock this room, use the keypad code 3-5-7-8, which you can find from another memo earlier in the game.
Once inside, go to the Treatment Room to see the Moldy Radiograph sitting in a bathtub surrounded by insects. However, you can’t use it as it is because it’s too dirty to reveal anything important.
To clean the radiograph, you’ll need a special item. Head down to the 1st-floor (1F) Pantry, where you can find a bottle of Mold Remover among some bugs. Combine this with the Moldy Radiograph in your inventory to obtain the Cleaned Up Radiograph.
This clean X-ray is now ready to be used in the X-ray room. Now that you have both radiographs (including the Cleaned Up Radiograph and the Pelvis Radiograph) return to the X-ray room on the 3rd floor. Place both X-rays on the viewer.
The puzzle requires you to line up scratches and black pen marks on the radiographs with the markings on the X-ray viewer board. When the X-rays are aligned correctly, look at the patterns and markings that form a code, as they will reveal the combination for the lock.
Head back to the combination lock and enter the code as follows:
- Turn right to
4 - Turn left to
37 - Turn right to
12 - Press the
Acceptbutton, and the lock will open.
Regardless of the difficulty, once the X-rays are aligned correctly, the code revealed is always 4-37-12. Markings are the only factor that varies by difficulty level.
After unlocking the combination lock, access a room that contains a Filthy Bracelet. This bracelet is part of a larger objective that requires finding and using multiple bracelets to continue your progress through the game. You will likely encounter enemies along the way.
Brookhaven Hospital has various enemies, including the infamous faceless nurses who patrol different hospital sections. Having weapons like a shotgun or other defensive tools will help you fend off these threats as you work to solve the puzzle.
