State of Decay 3 Release Date
Xbox has yet to officially reveal the State of Decay 3 release date but it’s expected to launch in May or June 2025 on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC, based on the series' launch history.
Originally announced in 2020 with a CG trailer, Undead Labs has now revealed the first gameplay footage of their new zombie survival game. This indicates the game is in a playable state and could be released in the next year or two.
Furthermore, based on previous games in the series, State of Decay 3 could be released as early as Summer 2025. The original State of Decay launched in June 2015, while its sequel arrived in May 2018. If Undead Labs follows this pattern, we'll see State of Decay 3 around May or June 2025, ten years after the original.
State of Decay 3 Game Pass
As a first-party Xbox Studio, Undead Labs will release State of Decay 3 on Xbox Game Pass across Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. However, PC players using Game Pass will need to play via the Xbox App on Windows 10 and 11.

State of Decay 3 Co-Op Multiplayer
State of Decay 3 supports cooperative multiplayer for up to four players in a shared, persistent world. Like the previous game in the series, players can team up to tackle the zombie menace in co-op. However, this time, the world will be shared between all players with synchronized saves.
Using technology from Grounded developer Obsidian Entertainment, State of Decay 3 will feature the series’ most flexible online co-op system yet, delivering a “truly open co-op world owned by multiple players.”
Does State of Decay 3 Have Cross-Play?
While not confirmed, State of Decay 3 is expected to support cross-play between Xbox Series and PC. Given the game’s use of Grounded’s shared save co-op system, Xbox and PC gamers should be able to play together seamlessly, even if PC players are on Steam.
In addition to cross-play, Xbox Game Studios releases typically support cross-save functionality, allowing you to play across both Xbox and PC without losing progress.
State of Decay 3 DLC
Undead Labs hasn’t confirmed whether State of Decay 3 will receive any DLC expansions after release. However, both previous games in the series received significant expansions, with State of Decay 2 getting multiple game-changing DLCs.
