The PS5 Pro’s steep price of $699.99 does not include a stand and a disc drive, making the PlayStation 6 seem like a better buy. Before you buy Sony’s most powerful console to date, here’s everything we know about the upcoming PlayStation 6.

When Will the Playstation 6 Release?

According to a Microsoft court document, the PlayStation 6 will be released in 2027. The document mentions that Microsoft will only continue making Activision games for the PlayStation until 2027, and Sony Interactive Entertainment will lose access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles once it launches the next-gen console.

While Sony hasn’t released any official announcements regarding the exact release date of the PS6, Microsoft thinks that a new PlayStation console will arrive in 2027. Sony has historically released its consoles starting on the PlayStation 3 sometime in November, and fans can anticipate that the new PS6 might launch in the same month.

What Are the PlayStation 6’s Tech Specs?

The PS5 Pro proudly offers three big features on its upcoming November 7, 2024 launch. A larger, more powerful GPU offers faster render speeds, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling tech.

Considering that the PS6 is the next-gen console, these three features will surely be present in the launch version. Sony could add other tech focusing on different PlayStation products, such as a new version of the DualSense controller or an updated PSVR device.

The PS5 Pro is capable of 4K gaming, which the PS6 will surely have. However, considering that the PS5 Pro does not come with a disc drive, it is another matter whether it will have one at launch.

With Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, which aims to upscale graphics while maintaining excellent visual fidelity on the PS5 Pro, the PS6 may come with an upgraded version of the tech, enabling resolutions of up to 8K 60fps.
