Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been out for a few weeks now and players have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the first ranked series in the game. Well that wait is over, as we now have the official rules for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series 1 ranked.
We have the details around the rule set for this series, including how long the season will last, what Pokemon are legal and banned in the format. This series will affect ranked play in game and most likely will be the same rules set for any in person regional events.

When is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series 1 ranked?
The details around Pokemon Scalet and Violet series 1 ranked was announced late last night, and with it the dates for the series. The series runs from December 2, 2022 to January 31, 2023. When the series goes live, the ranked ladder will open up in the Battle Stadium portion of the Poke Portal. This will also come along with a new patch for the game.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series 1 ranked rules
With the new season comes rules sets for it. In series 1 there's going to be two ranked ladders in game. Here are the rule sets for both ladders.
Singles:
- Paldea Pokedex
- Team of 3 to 6 Pokemon from level 1 to 100. All Pokemon set to level 50.
- Your Time: 10 Minutes
- Team Preview: 90 seconds
- Turn Time: 60 seconds
Doubles:
- Paldea Pokedex
- Team of 4 to 6 Pokemon from level 1 to 100. All Pokemon set to level 50.
- Your Time: 10 minutes
- Team Preview: 90 Seconds
- Turn Time: 60 seconds
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series 1 ranked banned Pokemon
With the rules set focusing on the Paldea Pokedex, we're going to have access to nearly the full suite of Pokemon in the game. But nearly isn't all so here are the Pokemon that are banned going into series 1.

- Wooper
- Quagsire
- Perrserker
- Great Tusk
- Brute Bonnet
- Sandy Shocks
- Scream Tail
- Flutter Mane
- Slither Wing
- Roaring Moon
- Iron Treads
- Iron Moth
- Iron Hands
- Iron Jugulis
- Iron Thorns
- Iron Bundle
- Iron Valiant
- Ting-Lu
- Chien-Pao
- Wo-Chien
- Chi-Yu
- Koraidon
- Miraidon
We can break down the banned Pokemon into a few categories. First is Pokemon that aren't in the Paldea Pokedex, which includes Charizard and Galaran Meowth. The second category is Paradox Pokemon. The Paradox Pokemon were incredibly powerful in pre-season teams, and now those won't be a consideration in this first series. The final set of banned Mons are Legendaries. This includes the Pokemon of Ruin, and your mount Pokemon.
