Borderlands 4 has been a poorly-kept secret these past few months and it looks like it’s all coming to a head soon. Rumors claim that the latest installment in this looter shooter series will debut sooner rather than later, which means more of those quips, bullets, and explosions.

The rumors come from Exputer, who are claiming that Gearbox and 2K’s new FPS RPG will be shown in this week’s Summer Games Fest. Considering how this event has replaced E3 as the biggest show of the Summer, this is as good a time to debut the game.

We’ll soon see if these rumors are true, though it’s worth noting that Borderlands 4 has been confirmed numerous times over the past few months. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford previously said that the next game in the series will be their best one, confirming the game’s existence. Not long after that, Gearbox outright said that the fourth entry was in active development.

It will be interesting to see if this fourth entry can do something different from the previous games, though we’ll have to wait and see if that’s the case. Fans aren’t exactly tired of the franchise if sales numbers and reviews are anything to go by. Some players have said that the visuals could be better, but the cel-shaded artstyle does give these games a timeless nature to it.

Personally, we expect more of the same from the franchise, since recent installments haven’t exactly innovated the looter shooter gameplay. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands did change up the game’s setting, but players were still killing enemies for loot in the end.

Many are expecting interest in Borderlands 4 to heat up soon, especially with the upcoming live-action movie coming out later this year. The star-studded cast that includes Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and more has many fans excited.

Summer Games Fest will take place tomorrow on June 7, so we might see Borderlands 4 appear in the show. In the meantime, fans can pick up every Borderlands game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
