Call of Duty cheaters have lost a major case against publisher Activision Blizzard and they will now have to pay millions for their crimes. This isn’t the first time these cheaters have been sued by Activision and they’re going to have to pay the ridiculously expensive price for it.
EngineOwning, the cheat manufacturer in question, will now have to pay $14.5 million in damages for distributing these cheats (via GamesRadar). Players used these cheats in various games of this series, including Warzone, Modern Warfare 3, but that looks to be stopping now.
Activision claims that these Call of Duty cheaters have caused them monetary damages and they were able to prove it at court. In addition to the millions that these cheaters now owe Activision, they also have to pay $292,000 in legal fees.
The cheat manufacturer now has to surrender their site to Activision, to ensure that they won’t be able to distribute these advantages to others. Obviously, the publisher wants to make sure that these cheats won’t get into the wrong hands and we can expect a shut down of this site soon.
Prior to this, Activision had made sure to block various Call of Duty cheaters to make sure that they wouldn’t ruin the game for anyone. We doubt that this will stop cheating permanently, but this is a major blow to anyone hoping to cheat their way to the top. As it stands, most players will want to play honestly from now on, unless they want to face the wrath of a billion-dollar company.
With plans to bring Black Ops 6 to Xbox Game Pass this year, getting rid of cheaters at this level is a huge win for Activision Blizzard. The company has a lot to celebrate right now and it will all culminate when gameplay for this new shooter is shown off next month.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is launching on Game Pass when the game comes out later this year. Fans can also expect a PS5 port of the shooter on the same day.
