Square Enix has just publicly released the briefing containing its fiscal year results from April 2023 to March 2024.

This included profit results from titles such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI, which were below the company’s expectations, as stated in the brief.

Despite the positive reception from gamers, the two titles did not generate the profits that Square Enix predicted they would have by the end of March 2024.

With Final Fantasy XVI now available on PC, will an Xbox release for Final Fantasy VII save the day for Square Enix?

According to the brief, Square Enix plans to bring its HD games (a category within the company that covers all titles excluding MMOs, browser, and mobile games) to platforms such as the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC. The company will aggressively pursue making these titles available to other consumers outside of the PlayStation ecosystem.

Xbox had a considerably long list of Final Fantasy titles available to the console, but in terms of current-gen titles, Square Enix has yet to confirm Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s arrival to Xbox Series X|S. Bringing the title to more fans would logically mean more sales, but doing so wouldn’t be easy.

Xbox and Microsoft have been having difficulty managing release delays on some games slated to be released on the console. Italian souls like Enotria: The Last Song are indefinitely delayed due to communication woes.

Dune Awakening has also been delayed for Xbox due to technical reasons. It will not help Square Enix if Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is also delayed due to reasons similar to the ones above, so if Microsoft wants Cloud and the party to be available to Xbox users, they will have to work seamlessly with Square Enix.
