Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is back in Square Enix, working on the enhanced re-release of Fantasian that’s set to release on current-gen systems this year. While he’s done working on Final Fantasy, he won’t be done playing it, as the legendary developer is obsessed with Yoshi-P’s Final Fantasy XIV.

Speaking with Bloomberg (via GamesRadar), Sakaguchi brought up how he has been playing the MMO religiously for many years now. In fact, Sakaguchi confessed that he had just logged off the MMO prior to the interview with Bloomberg, showing how much the developer loves this game.

This isn’t always a good thing, as the Final Fantasy creator revealed that his fellow devs at Mistwalker would have to log into the MMO and tell him about meetings. Sakaguchi claims that these are “rare” occasions, but considering how he was just playing the game before this big interview, we have our doubts.

“On a rare occasion — I want to stress ‘rare occasion’ — sometimes one of the Mistwalker team members will hop on Final Fantasy 14, and I’ll see a message saying, ‘Hey, the meeting’s started,’” Sakaguchi said during the interview.

We can’t blame Sakaguchi for being distracted, especially since Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most successful MMORPGs ever made. Even though the Dawntrail expansion has made some weird decisions, it doesn’t ruin the overall MMO, which still has great gameplay and an epic story.

Many fans are looking forward to Sakaguchi’s upcoming Fantasian re-release, which will be available on modern gaming platforms for the first time. This version of the JRPG has some features not seen in the Apple Arcade original, like voice acting, so this is going to be the version to get.

Fantasian Neo Dimension will be coming to PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam later this Winter. In the meantime, MMO nuts like Sakaguchi can continue to play Final Fantasy XIV on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC right now.
