Many GTA V fans are still mourning over the fact that they will never get their single-player story DLC. One of the game’s editors has since revealed why Rockstar Games decided to cancel this project and most fans can guess why this happened.

Joseph Rubino, who has worked for Rockstar Games for six years, confirms to SanInPlay that GTA Online was the main reason for the single-player DLC never coming out. Since the online game skyrocketed in popularity, Rubino and other developers had a hard time trying to convince Rockstar to continue this project.

“What happened was when GTA Online came out, it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a standalone DLC would out-compete that,” Rubino reveals. “I think looking back now I would say that you could probably do both, but that was a business decision that they made.”

GTA V is still a really popular game, with many fans still enjoying the single-player campaign to this day. There’s a reason why this game has been re-released for two different console generations. It would have been easy for Rockstar Games to just re-release GTA Online but the campaign continues to be a fundamental part about the package.

Considering how great the single-player game is, it’s a real shame that Rockstar opted not to release the additional story DLC. Sure, it wouldn’t have done as well as GTA Online, but the DLC would have sold pretty well regardless. The fact that fans are still asking for this story DLC shows that there’s a strong demand for it.

Right now, fans can purchase GTA V on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. Fans who don’t care about the online multiplayer will have a great time with the open-world and story. It should kill time until GTA 6 comes out on current-gen platforms.
