LEGO Horizon Adventures shocked everyone when it was announced for Nintendo Switch, since the PlayStation franchise never had a presence on the handheld/console hybrid. When the devs at Guerrilla were asked about this choice, they said it was to grow their audience, which means they want more money.

James Windeler, a narrative director at Guerrilla, spoke with VGC about the decision to bring this new brick-based adventure to the Switch. The narrative director said that bringing this title to Nintendo’s current system was a natural choice for them, as it will allow them to reach a more broad audience.

“I keep mentioning it, but we want this to be for everyone, and the Switch is really a platform that allows us to broaden the audience,” Windler told VGC. “That ethos goes all the way through the game, from the control schemes which are quite simple, [for example] it works on a single Joy-Con, and then also the simplification of the story, the lightening of the themes, the humour – it’s all part of the same ambition.”

The decision to bring LEGO Horizon Adventures to Switch was interesting to many, since this game isn’t coming to Xbox Series systems. Adventures has only been announced for the PS5, PC, and Switch but not Xbox Series, a console that can run this game with no issue. It seems that the rivalry between both companies remains strong, even if Xbox has shared exclusives like Hi-Fi Rush with Sony.

Nintendo has been home to pretty much every modern LEGO game, getting everything from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to LEGO DC Super Villains. We even saw the original LEGO Marvel Super Heroes come to Switch, years after it was out on the PS4 and Xbox One. Honestly, we can’t blame Sony or Guerrilla for bringing it to Switch, given that built-in fanbase.

LEGO Horizon Adventures will be coming to PS5, Switch, and PC this Holiday season.
