The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake had fans worried about its more realistic visuals, sacrificing some visual choices that gave the original a distinct identity. Konami has since confirmed that this remake will have legacy filters and controls, making this remake feel more like the PS2 classic.

Appearing on the Official Xbox Podcast, series producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed that this remake will give players the option to make it feel like the original PS2 game. Playing with this Legacy option means that there will be a slightly yellow filter that resembles what it used to look like, albeit, barely. Controls can also be changed to the original, though we don’t know why fans would say no to the over-the-shoulder shooting option.

Seeing this interview should give fans some hope about this Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, now called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. With or without the legacy filter, this looks like a solid modern game in terms of visuals, even if the realistic artstyle makes it feel bland.

Fans were finally able to see some gameplay for this remake during the most recent Xbox Games Showcase and they were reasonably impressed. Despite the modern visuals, a lot of the core gameplay was kept intact, because you don’t fix a game that isn’t broken. Sure, there’s the option for better shooting, but combat and stealth seem largely unchanged.

Unfortunately, there’s still no release window for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, though some insiders have said that it will be coming out next year. Konami originally said that the game would be coming out in 2024, but they haven’t updated fans on that since. Regardless, there isn’t anything wrong with allowing the devs to make this game better, especially if it leads to more remakes.

At the time of writing, there is no release date for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Curious fans can actually play the enhanced re-release of MGS3 now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
