Streaming service Netflix is continuing their push into gaming with over 80 games currently in development. This was revealed by Netflix co-CEO Gregory K. Peters during the company’s latest earnings call.

Peters goes on to discuss that the platform has already launched over 100 games and plans on releasing at least one new title every month moving forward. The majority of these games will be interactive narrative games based on existing Netflix IPs like Selling Sunset and Emily in Paris since they are “easier to build”.

“We're looking good in our engagement growth in '24, and we've set even more aggressive growth goals for '25 and '26,” said Peters about their current progress with Netflix Games. “But worth noting that, that engagement and that impact on our overall business at the current scale, it's still quite small. And it's also probably worth noting that the investment level in games relative to our overall content spend is also quite small,” he added.

Theodore A. Sarandos, Netflix’s other co-CEO, expressed his excitement over the company’s foray into gaming by saying that these games are great opportunities to “give the superfan a place to be between seasons and even beyond that.” Sarandos then mentions the possibility of setting up future storylines for existing IPs by introducing new characters and plot points within these interactive stories, then having them “materialize in the next season or sequel to the film.”

Netflix gaming may still be in its infancy, but the company’s higher-ups do seem hopeful about the endeavour. Right now, the focus of Netflix’s gaming efforts is on growth and having 80 titles currently in development definitely legitimizes that claim.

Netflix Games is available on mobile devices with titles like Grand Theft Auto 3 and Hades on the platform.
