After years of waiting, Nintendo has finally revealed gameplay footage of Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch. Developed by Retro Studios, the new first-person Metroid adventure is an absolute stunner on Nintendo’s handheld.

Dubbed Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, the next entry in next entry in the amazing Metroid spin-off series has finally been shown in action. Despite running on the original Nintendo Switch hardware, it’s an absolute stunner of a game, looking far better than the recent Metroid Prime Remastered release.

Expected to be released across both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond’s existence on the next-gen handheld has yet to be confirmed. However, the new game looks so good, it’s hard to believe it isn’t running on some form of new Nintendo Switch hardware.

The minute-or-so of gameplay footage shows Samus Aran setting down on a new planet in her iconic ship. Metroid Prime’s typical first-person gameplay returns, complete with scanning environments and dead bodies to gain more information about the world you’re exploring.

One scene shows an almost Halo 5 level of quality with Samus joining in a massive battle as ships fly around the sky and blast each other out of the air. It’s a cinematic treat for fans of the series, and is seemingly pushing the aging Nintendo Switch console to its absolute limits.

“After a very long time we can finally share more information about this title,” Nintendo said during the presentation. “Release is planned for 2025, please wait a bit longer. We hope you’re excited for Samus Aran’s adventure.”

While no specific Metroid Prime 4 Beyond release date has been confirmed, the game is expected to release sometime in the middle of the year. However, if the game is indeed a cross-gen title for the Nintendo Switch 2, it could be pushed until the Holiday period to drive new customer sales.

Alongside Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, Nintendo also announced a slew of other exclusive games. For example, the new RPG Mario and Luigi Brotherhood is already releasing this year as well the new Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
