Star Wars: Hunters will finally be hitting systems next week and developer Zynga has released a new gameplay trailer to celebrate the occasion. With a focus on new characters, game modes, and customization, this free-to-play shooter might not have the Force behind it, but it’s not in the Dark Side either.

The new gameplay trailer from Zynga shows off new game modes to play with friends and some customization options to those who want to grind. At the moment, there are three major game modes to play through during launch: Squad Brawl, Trophy Hunt, and Power Control. While these modes won’t blow anyone away, the core gameplay can keep players coming back.

Luckily, Star Wars: Hunters has reasons to keep fans playing, as the free-to-play shooter has a ton of cosmetics for gamers to earn. We’d like to assume these new attires can be earned through gameplay alone, but this is a free-to-play title so that doesn’t seem likely.

Hunters was revealed way back in 2021, but fans didn’t know how to feel about the shooter since no gameplay was shown. Eventually, the game was soft-launched on mobile devices, giving certain countries a chance to try this shooter out. Now that the game has a concrete release date, it will be interesting to see how fans react to it.

While Star Wars: Hunters looks like a competent enough multiplayer shooter, it’s going to be hard playing this and not comparing it to the Battlefront series. Those games are the pinnacle of multiplayer Star Wars fun, including the recent Battlefront 2. Although that game was controversial at launch, numerous patches and updates have made it a near-perfect multiplayer shooter.

Only time will tell if Hunters can compare to the Battlefront games, or if the shooter carves its own path somehow. Luckily, fans will be able to give it a shot without cost since, well, it’s free.

Star Wars: Hunters is coming to Switch and mobile devices on June 4.
