Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws channels GTA in space, enabling players to undertake heists and evade the Empire on speeder bikes and in spaceships.

The recent trailer for Outlaws clearly shows the influence of Grand Theft Auto, prompting fans of the upcoming game to express a desire for its own version of GTA Online.

Since its 2013 release, GTA Online has emerged as one of the most popular games ever. With ongoing GTA 5 weekly updates preceding the GTA 6 release date next year, introducing an Outlaws online DLC could prove brilliant.

On the game’s unofficial subreddit, one fan proposed that an online multiplayer mode would provide a fantastic experience after completing the game’s substantial single-player campaign.

“How crazy would it be if Ubisoft actually launched Star Wars Online post-release (similar to GTA Online) as a surprise,” one fan speculated. “Think about the excitement it would generate. The worlds they've created appear vast, large, and meticulously detailed, with expansive space travel from planet to planet.”

The Redditor outlined that the optimal iteration of this concept would enable players to craft their own Smuggler or Bounty Hunter and execute heists or eliminate high-bounty targets to accrue galactic credits.

Other players advocating for a multiplayer addition argued that it should echo the cooperative gameplay found in Assassin’s Creed Unity.

“I wouldn’t mind a Star Wars Outlaws Co-Op akin to Unity’s,” one comment notes. “Exploration and missions in an open-world setting with friends? Battling hordes of enemies? That would be awesome.”

After the lackluster performance of its live-service pirate game Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s multiplayer ventures have generally underwhelmed, barring its new FPS game XDefiant. However, a multiplayer Star Wars game in the vein of GTA Online does seem like a concept too potent to ignore.

Despite the compelling gameplay concept, fans of Star Wars Outlaws have pushed back against the idea of a GTA Online-style mode. Instead, enthusiasts of the forthcoming game are more enthused about its single-player offering above all else.

“I’m drawn to Outlaws because it’s a solo story-driven game; it’s not the type of game I’d want to play online,” one fan emphasized. “Although I would love a genuine co-op story for Outlaws 2.”

“GTA Online was overrun by hackers and big spenders,” another pointed out. “I’ll pass on that.”

Star Wars Outlaws launches this August for current-gen consoles and PC.
