Eric Barone, more commonly known as ConcernedApe, has vowed never to charge money for Stardew Valley DLC. The one-man developer took to X recently for an update on the next patch for the popular farming sim. In this post, ConcernedApe talks about how the next update is still being worked on and acknowledges that it’s taking a while to get out.
X user Hikuzu56 replied to the post by saying players won’t mind the wait as long as they get a good bit of content for free. The developer then responded by saying, “I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live.” He then follows that up with “Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath.” The reply has since been met with a deluge of likes and retweets.
Stardew Valley was officially released in 2016 and has since gone through several updates over the years. Some patches were quite small while others gave players a good chunk of new content to play with, but they were all done by Barone himself. The reason for Stardew Valley’s slow rollout for updates may be due to ConcernedApe currently working on another title called Haunted Chocolatier.
Earlier this year, Stardew Valley received one of its heftier updates with patch 1.6. The update included added features, a slew of new items, and some bug fixes, giving the farming game a resurgence in popularity and allowing it to reach a new all-time high concurrent player count.
Stardew Valley is currently available on PC, mobile, and select consoles.
