Breakdown

  • Ubisoft has canceled The Division Heartland
  • The publisher confirmed this was to focus on XDefiant and Raindow Six
  • We've seen plenty of Ubisoft cancellations lately, including killing the Watch Dogs franchise

The Division Heartland has been canceled by Ubisoft, with the company now focusing on their other multiplayer efforts from here on out. With XDefiant gaining more interest from players and Rainbow Six still being a huge franchise, the company has decided to put all its efforts on these projects.

Not long after announcing the game’s cancellation, Ubisoft released a statement to IGN, saying it was a “tough call” they had to make. According to their statement below, their current objective is to support Red Storm Entertainment Studio with XDefiant and Rainbow Six.

“After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately,” Ubisoft stated. “Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

It had been three years since Ubisoft announced The Division Heartland, with many fans wondering if we would ever hear from the game again. Cue some sort of cursed monkey’s paw, as fans received the news of Heartland getting cancelled for the company’s other multiplayer projects.

Ubisoft always held The Division in high regard, so fans were somewhat surprised to see the news of Heartland’s cancellation. Heartland was different from the first two games in the series, as this would have been a free-to-play shooter. Now that this entry has been canceled, it will be interesting to see if The Division will get any new games in the future.

Fans who have been following the gaming news cycle know that this isn’t the first time Ubisoft has canceled an upcoming game. Various reports have claimed that the company has killed their Watch Dogs franchise, including an unannounced battle royale with supposedly interesting mechanics.

The Division Heartland is no longer coming out, so fans who want a similar fix should play the previous games. XDefiant is scheduled for release next week, on May 21. Rainbow Six Siege is readily available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
