The new Genshin Impact competitor, Wuthering Waves, is quickly climbing the ranks of the gacha game genre. Unfortunately, the new gacha adventure is suffering from a launch disaster.

Now available on PC and mobile with its own array of banners to gamble on, Wuthering Waves aims to capture the gacha audience. Although the game has seen massive success on platforms like Twitch, many players have been unable to play it.

During its launch period, Wuthering Waves attracted over 90,000 viewers on Twitch. At the time of writing, that number has dropped to 31,200 viewers.

Despite its high popularity among gacha game fans, Wuthering Waves' launch has been plagued by constant server errors, disconnects, and glitches. Many players have experienced crashes when exiting character selection, preventing them from accessing the actual gameplay.

In the Reddit megathread for the game's numerous technical issues, users have reported terrible framerates even on powerful PCs. From constant stuttering and strange freezing to low framerates for no apparent reason, many players have deemed the game unplayable in its current state.

Players with PCs capable of maxing out Horizon Forbidden West and other AAA games are encountering shockingly low performance in a game designed for mobile.

"I’m sorry, I can’t even really sugarcoat it. I’ve been playing it for a little bit now, but this game stutters like sh*t," one user said. "And there’s really no excuse for it; it barely utilizes my PC system resources but just feels really bad to play. I desperately wanted an alternative to Genshin because I adore that Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom gameplay, but holy crap."

Wuthering Waves' launch mirrors that of the last major Genshin clone, Tower of Fantasy. While that game launched to large player numbers, its technical issues and poor design compared to Genshin caused it to lose popularity.

Wuthering Waves is available now on PC and mobile. A PlayStation version of the game is currently in the works. However, whether you're playing right now or holding off for the PS5 release, it's a good idea to keep up with the long list of characters you can get, especially if you're looking to get ahold of the best characters in our Wuthering Waves tier list.
