Microsoft is closing the Xbox 360 store, meaning fans won’t be able to buy hundreds of games that haven’t been ported to other systems. While the days of this classic system will soon be over, Microsoft is giving fans a Blades OS dynamic theme to make fans feel better.

Xbox has informed fans on Twitter that they can get the iconic 360 Blades theme for their current consoles, to mark the store closing down. It’s a bittersweet gift for Xbox fans, but one they will appreciate since the nostalgia for older consoles keeps going strong.

Final price cuts for the Xbox 360 store are also making the rounds, so fans who haven’t yet can pick up games for a cheap price. They will also be able to re-download these games when they want to play them again, but buying these titles won’t be an option soon.

Retro gamers hoping this will completely give their modern Xbox systems the 360 Blades will be disappointed since it’s just a theme. It’s a theme that does the job and will make fans remember this older system, but this won’t replace the hurt of Microsoft closing down this older store.

Although many fans saw it coming, Microsoft’s closure of the Xbox 360 store is still disappointing news for fans of older video games. Granted, plenty of these games are playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series stores, including older Call of Duty entries, but plenty of titles don’t have that luxury.

It’s not just Xbox guilty of closing down their older stores, as Nintendo is just as guilty if not more. Nintendo closed down the eShops for their Wii U and 3DS systems, leaving plenty of games lost to the void. The company also closed down online play for Wii U and 3DS multiplayer games recently, though fans have a way around that so it’s not all doom and gloom.

The Xbox 360 Marketplace is closing down later this month, on July 29. Fans can still purchase games from the store for the next few weeks.
