Appreciation for the classic Zelda formula is at an all-time high, with even Nintendo bringing it back with Echoes of Wisdom. Inti Creates also capitalizes on all this hype with its new game Divine Dynamo Flamefrit, which combines classic Zelda gameplay with a ‘90s anime aesthetic.

This game was unveiled in April as a joke (via Nintendo Life), but it gained enough fan interest to become a real project. Not only is this game real, but it will also be coming to consoles and PCs this winter, though no official release date has been given.

Looking like a more action-packed Zelda RPG, Divine Dynamo Flamefrit has players controlling Yuto Hino, who hacks and slashes their way through this trailer. Yuto will be joined by friends with different abilities, all of which can be used during combat and puzzle-solving. Based on the trailer, these characters will act as the traditional tools Link normally has, which is unique.

Inti Creates is known for some fairly quality 2D-pixel games, so Divine Dynamo Flamefrit is in trusted hands. These devs have also worked on Capcom’s acclaimed Mega Man Zero games and the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, showing their expertise in 2D games.

Nintendo fans should be familiar with their Blaster Master Zero games since the first title was available during the Switch’s launch. These three games are the closest thing to Zelda that Inti Creates has made thus far because they mix pure 2D sidescrolling with over-the-head dungeon crawling. All these games are fun and action-packed, so fans who are hopeful for this new title have every right to be.

Divine Dynamo Flamefrit has the potential to break out as a major indie hit, especially with fans loving the classic Zelda formula. It might not get the same reaction as Echoes of Wisdom, but this game does have plenty of potential based on the trailer alone. With a killer ‘90s aesthetic and fun-looking gameplay, this title can be something special.
